Cheran (Tamil: சேரன்; born 12 December 1966[citation needed]) is a Tamil film director from Tamil Nadu, India. He has won the Indian National Film Award thrice for Vetri Kodi Kattu (2000), (Best Film dealing with social issues category), Autograph (2004), (Most Entertaining Film category) and Thavamai Thavamirundhu (2005) (Best Film on Family Welfare). Besides he is three-time Filmfare Award winner as well. Cheran was born in Pazhayurpatti, Madurai district, Tamil Nadu. His father was a cinema (machine) operator and his mother was a nursery school teacher. He began his career as an assistant to K. S. Ravikumar
